Is it better to do one practice exam per week (over a six-week period) until my second attempt, or should I do them closer to the exam (over a four-week period: 1 each 3 and 4 weeks before exam, 2 each 1 and 2 weeks before exam)?

Thanks!
Hey! There are people who aced the GMAT with both the options, so there won't be a one-size-fits-all approach. However, the better one would be to take one test per week and two tests (each week) during the last two weeks. This will help you in addressing the weak areas while you still have time on hand. Taking all tests towards the end can be counter-productive as you may not get sufficient time to work on your weak areas.

Hi username625625,

It really boils down to your schedule and what you will be doing in between your practice tests. Do you prefer to have a week gap in between each practice test?

I would do the latter. Also btw in case you didn't know, you can take each of the official practice exams twice without repeating questions. So maybe you have 12 exams left. Just make sure of that once.

Like I mentioned, I only have six official practice exams left.

I started preparing for the GMAT in late-February and sat for my first attempt in late-June. I didn't take my first practice exam until mid-April, however, and doing poorly on it was a very big wake-up call. I took my second practice exam three weeks later. In total, I took six practice exams before my official attempt:

  • Practice Exam 1: 515 (60Q, 84V, 82DI) - I didn't finish the quantitative section and missed five questions as a result. Hence the low quantitative score.
  • Practice Exam 2: 665 (83Q, 83V, 83DI)
  • Practice Exam 3: 665 (82Q, 85V, 82DI)
  • Practice Exam 4: 645 (81Q, 83V, 82DI)
  • Practice Exam 5: 675 (84Q, 84V, 82DI)
  • Practice Exam 6: 665 (81Q, 83V, 85DI)

I ended up with a 645 (80Q, 83V, 82DI) on the actual exam to my disappointment. I am aiming for a 705+.

Hi username625625,

You may want to not take all the official tests before your GMAT if this is your first attempt. Try taking tests 1-3 or 1-4 again if you need more practice tests. Because there's a risk of repeat questions if you do this, it's a really good idea to save 2-3 tests for a second attempt (just in case you need to retake).
