[Disclaimer: Hey, it's my first time starting a discussion so if I am doing something I am not supposed to, please point it out. ]
Background
I am a 4th-year B.Tech. student from India and I am planning to take the GMAT in March/April. I attempted my first mock at Veritas and got the following score:
(Please note that my preparation for verbal was almost nil and I took the test to just establish a baseline score)
Percentage of Problems answered correctly:
1. PS 82.35 %
2. DS 57.14 %
3. RC 33.33 %
4. CR 40 %
5. SC 50 %
Quant 71% correct; 96 percentile
Verbal 42% correct; 26 percentile.
Overall score 600; 56 percentile.
I decided to study GMAT verbal basics and after reading a lot of posts, I decided to go with
MGMAT books, particularly the Foundations of Verbal GMAT. I must say it felt nice when someone explained the concepts of SC(for the first time), not just asking me to mug up the rules. I did the book somewhat decently; however, I did nothing in the quant section because I was aiming for achieving a score balance. I also kept on practicing SC questions on this forum. I attempted a second mock, again on Veritas and got the following scores:
Percentage of Problems answered correctly:
1. PS 88.24 %
2. DS 35.71 %
3. RC 41.67 %
4. CR 85.71 % (many of these were guesses I think)
5. SC 66.67 % (genuine ones)
Quant 65% correct; 96 percentile
Verbal 62% correct; 66 percentile. (I felt the timing was insufficient this time around because I was actually trying to solve questions; missed out ~3-4 questions at the end)
Overall score 680; 82 percentile.
Further Strategy
QuantI have the books from my coaching institute and I will be finishing them first. Then I will go to solving the
OG problems. I do not have much idea what should I learn here because I feel I know the concepts well, it is just the lack of practice of harder problems in this section. If you feel it is not the case, please suggest how should I proceed here.
VerbalWhile I did get the expected improvement in SC questions, the lack of practice in CR and RC got the best of me. The ticking timer constantly kept triggering my anxiety and I would keep making mistakes. This is the section where I think I need more than just practice. I am considering first solving
MGMAT books (SC, RC, and CR), then maybe go for the
OG problems or books from my coaching institute.
What am I asking for?
There is an overwhelming amount of resources online and I just cannot stop worrying what if I was wasting my time after something when I should be doing something else.
If you can and want to, you can point me out in the direction. Else, I would like the guidance as to how to decide(on my own) the direction in which I should proceed next. If you want any other information about my academic background or the test results in order to provide guidance, please feel free to ask.
