Hi Siri,

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your goal score?
5) What is your exact Test Date?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
7) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

1. I studied for around 1 year on and off.
2. I used the Official guide and Kaplan's guide.
3. I attempted only 2 mock tests. In the second test I got 580 (Q42, V31, IR 5/8). I don't have results of second one.
4. Any score above 700 can get me into my desired b-school.
5. It's on Dec 1, 2018.
6. For the fall semester in 2019.
7. There is a huge list.. I need to short list.

Hi Sirikolli98,

It would be helpful for us to know your potential score range as of today to give you better advice. Generally speaking, you should spend at least about 3 hours a day for 2 to 4 weeks if you are targeting a score above 700 and have already achieved a score above 650.

As for our method for improving quant score quickly, the best way is to focus on the DS type of quant problems first. You may save PS for later if you don’t have much time to study. Also try to solve the most-up-to-date problem sets, if possible, to get the fast results. Here is our analysis of GMAT quant trends to give you the most-up-to-date problem information.
https://gmatclub.com/forum/overview-of- ... 11809.html

Our Variable Approach for DS help students answer questions correctly and save time significantly. On average, if lower than 45 points, our students improve +5 points on the quant and have about 10 minutes to spare before the math section ends. Here is an example how the Variable Approach can be applied. When you encounter a DS problem, you first need to count the number of variables and equations given in the question. By doing so, you can determine which answer choice will most likely be the answer. If there are only two variables in a question, you need at least 2 equations to solve the question. Since two conditions in the question usually give 2 separate equations, it is most likely that C (both conditions together are sufficient) will be the answer. Math Revolution offers many more techniques and tips to solve questions easily to save time and improve accuracy.

Sirikolli98, we post our questions for DS & PS every week under Forum>GMAT Quantitative. It’s a good place to practice our methods.

We offer both free trial pack and free video lessons to students on our site mathrevolution.com. So check it out to see if our material will work for you. Also don’t forget to try our free diagnostic test!! You will never run out of math questions. We offer over 2,700 questions through our membership, starting at $99 per 3 months.

Hi Siri,

From the information in your last post, it is not clear when you took your last practice CAT - and if you've been off and on for a year, then it's not clear whether your current 'ability level' is really in the high-500s or not. Raising a 580 to a 700+ will likely require at least another 2-3 months of consistent, guided study - and you'll have to make significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. Thankfully, the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Exam, so you CAN train to score at a higher level. However, since you're going to be focused on your semester Exams for the next couple of weeks, the goal to make all of those improvements by December 1st is likely too difficult to be considered realistic. If you "need" a 700+ to properly apply to Business School, then you will almost certainly need to give yourself more study time - meaning that you should consider pushing back your Test Date.

Once you are done with your semester Exams, I strongly recommend that you take one of the Official GMAC CATs and take it in a realistic fashion (take the FULL CAT - with the Essay and IR sections, take it away from your home, at the same time of day as when you'll take the Official GMAT, etc.). Once you have that score, you should report back here and we can discuss how best to proceed.

Rich

Hey,
I am Siri. I have my GMAT exam in a month. And unfortunately my semester exams are starting next week. I don't have much time to improve my score and I literally need help...
Can anyone please help me in doing my preparation in a less time consuming way!?

I got 580 (Q42, V31, IR 5/8). But that was many months ago.

I use official guide for practice and Kaplan's guide for strategies.

My target score is 700+

Hi

You have almost 1 month and 10 days, you should have already practiced a lot of questions till now and probably have made an error log also, Concentrate on your weak areas reflected in your error log.

For a 700+ score your quant benchmark should be 49-50 and for verbal 37-39.

for a Q49 Or Q50 Score your accuracy in easy level questions should be >90% in Medium level question ~80% and Hard level questions >60% and same level for a V37-39.

Take CATs from official sources and analyze the results.

Good Luck
