and they had a trivia contest on their personal entertainment system where you play against all other passengers. The scores are displayed in real time identifying you by your moniker and seat number. It was incredibly entertaining. The 4 hours just flew by. I actually got to know a few of my co-passengers quite well due to the game.

If only all airlines worked on improving their service rather than counting the number of peanuts in their snack pack.

I did this on Delta Song; it was quite amusing. It was a musical trivia. There were a lot of heads popping out from the masses when the trivia was over to see what the winner looks like.

I was on a flight this weekend and had some weird overweight lady next to me that was so petrified of flying that she rocked back and forth the entire time we were in the air. It was awful.

That's terrible. I had a flight once where the guy next to be was so fat he had to request a seatbelt extension. Needless to say, he didn't come close to fitting in his own seat. They should really make people that take up more than one seat fly first/business class or pay for an additional seat - some airlines do enforce this rule.

That reminds me of this time I tried to save money by taking Grayhound. It was the first time, and the last time. Two guys got on about two hours into the trip and wouldnt shut up the whole time laughing and yelling in the back about how they "had drugs" and "were high as hell" etc. I thought that was bad, until we got to the next stop and people started piling on. The last woman to get on is this HUGE lady carrying multiple bags from Mcdonalds. She sits next to me of course, for the next hour or so, I find myself watching her eat two big macs while I hold her fries for her because she is literally using both her hands to hold a big mac each. She keeps dropping food on herself and blowing it off her stomach. I have grease and little pieces of her food all over me by the time she finishes.

Domestic...which made it a pleasant surprise.

DJM
was this domestic or international?

I have seen such options on several international airlines i.e Emirates, BA, Alitalia, etc. However, nothing like that in domestic.

I recently flew from east coast to the west and was upgraded to first. Since
the flight left at 8 pm, they had no food available, even in first. How ridiculous is that??

I once took a bus from Stockholm to Paris (to save money as well, 25 hours long) and these two guys got on somewhere in Germany and sat behind me. I'm pretty sure they were American (as am I) and for about the first hour I sat, listening to them discussing whether or not to steal my laptop...in clear English, no less. Not sure where they were planning on running after they took it, considering we were on a bus, but I found it amusing and I guess they eventually changed their minds. Might have been exciting, but alas, twas not.

When I was working in NY, I used to sometimes hop on the bus to Atlantic City. It ran every 15 minutes and was a pretty convenient way of making the trip.

On one trip back, I was riding along in the middle of the night in a 1/2 full bus when we pulled over to the side of the road. Apparently, the bus ahead of us had broken down so they picked up the people from that bus. What really sucked was that the bus couldn't accommodate all the extra people, so some had to continue waiting. I felt bad for the people standing on the side of the road, but I was really glad it wasn't me. Not sure how long they had to wait until the next bus came by.

Seems like riding the bus can be a real adventure. Has anyone here ever taken a trip on a train? I don't mean a subway or BART or something in-town, but a real train touring the countryside? I've always wanted to do that.

1) Once took a greyhound from madison, wi to cleveland, oh. Everyone on the bus had two seats to themselves, except for me. I got to sit next to Hector. He was obviously insane, laughing, making cat noises, and watching me the whole time. Freaky as all get out, especially 'cause I was 15. I also had a guy try to sell me stolen jewelry, had a woman explain to me why black men like fat white women, and then learned how to drive stick on a dodge omni through downtown cleveland. and that's just the first two days of the trip.

2) when I was 7 I took a train from lacrosse Wi to dallas. The first morning in TX i woke up with the chicken pox. turns out i was crossing the country during my most contagious stretch. A woman meditated in the changing room near the bathroom the entire time. for a small-town girl in the 80s, this was a strange experience.

I was on this greyhound from louisville, ky to cincinnati, oh. the journey was supposed to start at 10 am and take about 2 hours. just before the start a 10 year old kid got into the bus. it seems there is a rule that a kid under 12 should be accompanied by an adult. this kid was not. so the driver tried to get this kid off the bus and the kid apparently got angry and slapped the driver a couple of times. the driver obviously incensed called 911 and got the kid arrested for battery and assault.
the bus eventually left after the high drama at 12 pm. this 10 year old kid was my new hero.

Yea, one of my favourite trips is Rome to Switzerland overnight (then take some trains around switzerland), Switzerland to Paris (overnight) then Paris to London and then back.

I took TGV for the first time this February. Brussels to Paris in under two hours - amazing!!! As for the conventional slow moving trains - travelled thousands and thousands of kilometers in those :-D

That sounds cool. I've toured around the US & Canada many many times on the open road, but have never had the opportunity to tour in a train. I bet 10x more people in the US have ridden cruise ships than trains.

If you ever have a chance to tour the US by train this is the way to do it! https://www.americanorientexpress.com/ !

Many times in India from Delhi (North) to Southern most part of India. It is gorgeous. When you go from Mumbai (earlier Bombay) to South then go by Konkan railway. It is along the western coastline of India. It's really really really wonderful....
