I woke up early to get a good start on SC from GMAT Ultimate Grammar and maybe i woke up too early 
i came across a few problems that i couldnt not explain to myself. If someone could help me with these it would be greately appreciated!

The only juice I could extract from this SC is the last few words "they had to wait". That piece of the puzzle fits in well in the sentence. But the first half is a straight no. I believe answer could be A or C if you rewrite it as -
Brad wanted to go fishing with his dad, but they had to wait.....
Brad wanted to go fishing with his dad, but they had to wait.....

Yup I agree. I dont like either of the choices. It can be confusing when you study another language and a bad example can start doubting what is wrong and what is right.
