In a class of 20 students, the average weight of the students is 40 kg and the range is 10. However, the average weight increases to 41 when a new student joins the class in the new session. Based on the above information, select for Maximum range the maximum possible range of the weight of the new class and for Minimum range the minimum possible range of the weight of the new class.

I am writing this here - since I have made this mistake 7 times on different timers and test

The whole idea in these questions is to find min and max small value of x - forget about the new person just focus on this part.

to max X - you need to make sure all values are min and only the last value is x+10
Idea is X pulls all strength towards it. So 20x = 790
x= 39.5 - this is the max value X can have

Min value x can have.... same logic take X and make other values max
X+19X+190 = 800
20x= 610 = 30.5
this is the min value of x

Just use this against the new guy 61 and you will get your answer.
