Hi Cheryl88,

PE is longshot for most. For you? It’s realistic. Now, the more you show that the skills, type of clients, and even industries (if you have any niche PE targets such as in clean energy) you’ve had so far are going to take you closer to your short-term goal, the better it is. It would also mean understanding that PE recruitment requires plenty of networking and that your odds may be better in particular markets. When explaining short-term goals, devil is in detail. Just mentioning PE cursorily wouldn’t be effective.

Hi guys,

Wonder whether it's less compelling for investment bankers to write their short-term goal as to join a private equity firm? I mean easily forgotten by adcom officer?

Then how about taking a leadership program at large MNC companies, say Amazon?

To be honest, it's a bit boring. You may not know this, but PE/VC is the standard top choice goal of well.... just about every applicant (before they talk to us, that is :) ) so can you do it? Coming from IB, yeah... but you really have to really want it, and be prepared to make a case for it. Cause that's what everyone else wants to.

tl;dr You can go with those goals, but you might have better ones.

Best,
Jon
