Hello everyone,
I'm Sujay from India. I've been granted a conditional admit for the Master in Management (September 2015 intake). The admissions process was really smooth.
I took the ieGAT instead of the GMAT (The diagrammatic section in particular was really interesting) and was invited for a formal interview 10 days later. The interview lasted for about fifty minutes. The adcom who conducted my interview made me feel at ease and the entire session was more of a conversation than a standard Q&A session which made it an interesting experience. Questions that were asked pertained to my essay and presentations that I submitted along with my online application, Personal experiences, Global news, Motivation to study Business and choice of IE as the destination. There were no business related questions.
The final decision was conveyed to me last night (18 days from the date of interview). I'm yet to reserve my seat.
Also, I'd like to get in touch with people who have gotten into the program. :D
Thanks !
Congratulations Sujay !
Hi all,
I am proud to be a product of India but I presently live and work in Singapore.
With an aim to grow as a generalist in the corp world, I am sincerely approaching earning my MBA degree seriously .
I heard about ie decision day in about 2 weeks, hence thought to leverage that opportunity. So I registered for ieGAT on 4th May and interview scheduled on 6th May
I registered for the decision day and started preparing for the ieGAT scheduled in 2 weeks time. Given the fact I have never prepared/appeared for GMAT, I spent maximum about a couple of hours a day to brush my quant using online free mocks and resources
- 4th May: ieGAT:
I had only two weeks ahead of my ieGAT. I have never really prepared for a GMAT in the past. So with the little time I got after my busy work schedule I did brush up some quants and verbal. In the test I did ok particularly in the diagrammatic section however the Quant+verbal ate much of my time. A day later I got an email from the adcom team that I am below global average. However understand that ieGAT is one of the selection criteria and not the only selection criteria. And hence I prepared for the interview which was scheduled one day after my Test(6th May), considering that was the only solid opportunity to make a greater positive impact on the adcom
- 6th May, Interview:
Before getting to the interview part. A brief introduction about me to put things in to perspective. I have 12 years of work experience out of which I have significant amount of international experience. Through out my career I have held several senior level roles.Hence I was confident about the interview and hopeful that my professional progress may spin positively.
So here I would like to share some questions( that is on top of my mind), which prospect students preparing for the interview might find useful
Duration: 90 Mins
Adcom to me:-
- Tell me about your academic?
- Tell me about your first job?
- What are the major challenges in my current role?
- Why MBA now?
- Why ie?
- Why ie should have met me?
- Where do you want to see yourself 5 years from now?
- Name an animal that best represents you?
- Name a celebrity? Here I answered my first Boss is my role model and hence he is my celebrity
- What is the burning question you would ask your first boss if you see him again?
- What do you fear if you meet a career therapist?
- If my childhood me can see me how I am today, what he will feel?
- Considering you would not know what happens in 10 years makes you concerned or excited?
- What makes you out of your comfort zone?
- In a team would you prefer to be a team player or team leader?
Me to Adcom:-
- How many practical case studies would I get to work during my tenure? (Adcom said appx 200 ~300 real life case studies for 15 months duration)
- Given my experience and my career objective, how do you think I should leverage this degree?
- By the end of this MBA, what are the qualities I should have attained for which ie would feel proud about me?
- Can you tell me one quality (or) qualities of mine that according to you might have played a vital role for me to get selected? ( I explained the reason I am asking this Q which was : " As a professional I seldom get evaluated as a professional from a 3rd person, so the feedback will help me understand what professional quality of mine stands out so I can enrich and also improvise other qualities as well)
Throughout the interview I was confident and had maintained my composure. I articulated my replies in a clear and concise manner. I paid attention to my choice of words used in my conversation.
Now that I have done everything I could based on my capacity, I now sincerely await adcom's final result
If things gets through I would join Sep 2015 in Executive MBA
I wish every one a very good luck
**Will post my next update in the next 3 weeks
In the meantime if any one has any questions, ask , happy to answer if I know and I am sure of
Good luck and cheers!
