What do global banking APIs, interior design layout blueprints, and tracking wild tigers have in common?
These are the diverse, defining chapters that made Tejal’s story stand out, leading her to secure admits from IESE, Oxford, and Cambridge, with scholarships.
A computer engineer from VIIT (Pune), she started her journey on a predictable path: joining HSBC as a software engineer.
Through that initial role, she got the opportunity to collaborate with global teams across the UK and China, communicating directly with CXO’s.
But two years in, a creative spark led her to step completely off the beaten track. She pursued a diploma in interior design alongside her full-time role and completed an internship in the field.
When she realized her long-term future still belonged in technology, she didn’t see the detour as a setback. She embraced it.
Returning to the banking tech space with First Direct (a customer-facing digital bank owned by HSBC), she quickly scaled up her profile.
She earned a promotion to Senior Software Engineer, leading a 6-member team to build banking APIs, piloting internal AI projects, and mentoring junior engineers.
However, in a highly competitive MBA applicant pool where consistency is often over-indexed, a fragmented narrative can be risky.
With a 322 GRE, the strategy couldn't rely solely on a high score to overshadow the gap.
That’s where our collaboration began.
Instead of hiding the detour or downplaying the intensity of balancing multiple GRE attempts with demanding office hours, we embraced it all as proof of her resilience, and willingness to take calculated risks.
We worked closely to map out her unique journey, diving deep into brainstorming sessions to unearth her authentic 'why' and long-term career goals.
We then bridged her tech leadership, creative pivot, and non-profit volunteering into an authentic narrative.
The admissions committees agreed!
Tejal swept the board with admits to IESE, Oxford Saïd, and Cambridge Judge, backed by €40K in scholarships at IESE, which is one of the highest scholarship amounts we've seen at a top European school.
