If 49 < x < 54 what is the value of x?

(1) x is not a prime number.
Possible integer values of x are 50, 51, 52 since 53 is prime number.
Three values hence.

INSUFFICIENT.

(2) x is odd.
Possible values of x are 51 and 53.

INSUFFICIENT.

Together 1 and 2.
Only 51 is left. x = 51

SUFFICIENT.

If 49 < x < 54 what is the value of x?

(Statement1): x is not a prime number.
--> x could be 50,51 or 52 but not 53(prime)
Insufficient

(Statement2) x is odd.
--> x could be 51 or 53.
Insufficient

Taken together 1&2,
--> x must be only 51, which is odd and not prime number in 49 < x< 54
Sufficient

Answer (C).

If 49 < x < 54 what is the value of x?

(1) x is not a prime number.

(2) x is odd.

Since x is not an integer, it can assume any value between 49 and 54. Statement 1 says x can be 50, 51 or 52 or any other number that is not prime. The only prime in this range is 53. Not suff.
Stmnt 2 says, x is odd. There are two odd integers, 51 and 53. Not suff.
Odd and non-prime features are applicable only to integers. So we can say x is 51. Suff.
C is the answer.

From the question statement:
49 < x < 54, so x can be an integer like 50, 51 etc. or it can be decimal like 50.1, 50.11 etc.

Statement 1: x is not a prime number.
A prime number has to be an integer, which in our case is 53. But statement says NOT prime number. Then it can be 50,51,52 or many of the decimals.
NOT SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: x is odd.
Odd and even applies to integers only. But there are two in our range: 51 and 53
NOT SUFFICIENT

Statement 1 + Statement 2: x is odd and not a prime number
from 51 and 53 which we got from S2, 53 is prime and 51 is not prime.
SUFFICIENT

If 49 < x < 54 what is the value of x?

So we have that the possible values are all between 49 and 54, not necessarily integers, so infinite possibilities and we need to get the only one.

(1) x is not a prime number.

With (1), we just get that out of all those values (49.1; 50;...), the integer prime 51 would not be the one. Not sufficient.

(2) x is odd.

With this we get more information that seems, being odd means that our value can be only integer, so we reduced from infinite possibilities to just 2, 51 & 53.
Regardless of that, again
, Not sufficient.

Finally, combining (1) & (2), we get that 53 would be the only possible value, so the answer would be C.

Pablo

given 49<x<54
Now x can be fraction or integer.
Statement 1 says that x is not prime. : 51, 52, 51.5, Not sufficient.
Statement 2 say: X is odd. Here we consider that x is odd integer.
51, 53.

St1 +2 will give you 51.
C is answer.

given
49 < x < 54
(1) x is not a prime number.
X can be anything but 53
Not sufficient

(2) x is odd.
x can be 51 or 53

Combined
x is odd indicates x is definitely an integer and its not prime
indicates x = 51

(1) x is not a prime number.

(2) x is odd.

question find the value of X it could be 50, 51, 52 or 53

Statement 1:
x is not a prime number.
of all the numbers 53 is prime hence X could be 50, 51 or 52. Statement 1 is insufficient.

Statement 2
X is odd. X can be 51 or 53 hence insufficient

when combining these 2 statements

we get X can be 50, 51 or 52 but X is odd so X is 51

hence while combining we get a definite value.
