Re: If 5x = 6y and xy ≠ 0, what is the ratio of 1/5*x to 1/6*y ? [#permalink]
Since 5x=6y and xy<>0

We can pick numbers for x and y
x=6 and y=5

(1/5*x)/(1/6*y)
=36/25

5x = 6y
x/y = 6/5

1/5*x to 1/6*y = x/y * 6/5 = (6/5)^2=36/25

How did you get the last part? When you plug in 6 in for X and 5 in for Y. you get 30/30?

When you substitute x=6 and y=5, you get

\(\frac{(1/5)*6}{(1/6)*5} = \frac {6/5}{5/6} = \frac{36}{25}.\)

Hope this helps.
