If A, then B.
If B, then C.
If C, then D.
If all of the statements above are true, which of the following must also be true?
(A) If D, then A.
(B) If not B, then not C.
(C) If not D, then not A.
(D) If D, then E.
(E) If not A, then not D.

I've no idea how to deal with these kind of problems. Could anyone help?

IMO C

If not D then not A

Let's say, A is a baby and B is a mother.

If there is a baby, then there is a mother (always; there is no baby without mother)

does "no baby" means "no mother"? NO but No mother means No baby.

so I work backward: if C then D ==> if not D then not C
if not C then not B
if not B then not A

hence, if not D then Not A

is this a gmat question? what is AO?

yes, you're right, OA is C. The question is from CR1000. But I can't understand your reasoning ok, If not B, then not A, backward approach I got, but why is not it logical to say, if not A, then not B ?

because if A, then B, if NOT A, we do not know what will happen to B as B is the effect of A but not NOT A.

however, if NOT B, then we know A didn't happen.

for example:

say there are eggs, then there are chickens who give birth to em. if there are NO eggs, we can't say there are no chickens.

however, if there are NO chickens, then there definitely can't be any eggs. hence the case for B and E.

also, since you can't have two asnwers in one questions...B and E are of the same logic, hence both are wrong.
