If a^x * b^y=200, where a, b, x, y are positive integers, x + y = ?
(1) x>y
(2) x*y = 6
A. Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient but Statement (2) ALONE is not sufficient.
B. Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient but Statement (1) ALONE is not sufficient.
C. BOTH Statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER Statement alone is
sufficient.
D. Each Statement ALONE is sufficient.
E. Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient.
______
I believe OA is not convincing.hence posted it.
a^x * b^y=200 = 2^3*5^2 = 10^2*2^1
1) x=3 y=2 and x=2 y=1 possible
insufficient
2) x*y=6
x=2 y=3 or x=3 y=2
x+y=5
a^x * b^y=200 = 200^1*1^1 = 1^2*200^1insufficient
combined
x>y
1^2*200^1
x+y=3
x=3 and y=2
x+y=5
Not sufficient
E.
Agree with 1 but in 2, xy = 6.
x and y either could be 2 and the other is 3.
x and y could alos be either 1 or 6 but this combination ius not possible cuz (a^x)(b^y) = 200.
so B should be suff..
