If all the employees of a company fall into one and only one of 3 groups, X, Y, or Z, with 250, 100, and 20 members in each group, respectively, what is the average (arithmetic mean) weekly salary of all the employees of this company, if all employees are paid every week of the year?

(1) The average (arithmetic mean) annual salary of the employees in Group X is $10,000, in Group Y $15,000 and in Group Z $20,000.
(2) The total annual payroll is $4,400,000.

DS21215

Group X = 250 members
Group Y = 100 members
Group Z = 20 members

(1) \(250(10,000) + 100(15,000) + 20(20,000)\) = total salary

From the total annual salary, we can determine the average weekly salary of all the employees. SUFFICIENT.

(2) From the total annual payroll, we can determine the average weekly salary of all the employees. SUFFICIENT.

Answer is D.

avigutman and Bunuel, can you please shed some light on how do we find the average weekly salary? Will it be total salaries/total weeks in a year?

Thank you.

CrushTHYGMAT you're asking about how to find the average weekly salary, but I suspect you meant to ask how to find the average (arithmetic mean) weekly salary of all the employees of this company.
You'd have to add up all weekly salaries of all employees, and then divide by the number of employees.
If you're given the annual salaries rather than weekly salaries, you have to add up all annual salaries of all employees, then divide by the number of weeks per year and also divide by the number of employees.
