From given

M( x-1) = 0 , thus either m=0 or x=1

From 1

M is 0 ... suff

From 2

X is 1 and thus no idea about m... insuff

This might be very trivial. Why is statement 2 sufficient? since x = 1, any number multiplied 1 is the same. Doesn't statement 2 alone be sufficient to prove mx = m? What am I missing here?

Hi pramesh,
The equation mx = m is given. The question asks for the value of m.

Hi everybody,

If mx = m, then what is the value of m?

(1) m has only one multiple.
From this statement we can infer that m=0. Hence sufficient

(2) x has only one distinct factor.
If X=1 we have infinite values for m. Hence insufficient
