Solution

Given:
• Karishma spends 53 seconds folding H napkins

To find:
• The time Karishma will take (in secs) to fold B napkins, working at the same rate

Approach and Working:

To fold H napkins, Karishma takes 53 seconds
• Hence, to fold 1 napkin, Karishma takes $$\frac{53}{H}$$ seconds
Therefore, to fold B napkins, Karishma takes $$\frac{53}{H} * B$$ seconds = $$\frac{53B}{H}$$ seconds

Hence, the correct answer is option A.

The trap in this question: $$B$$ napkins = Work
Work needs to be divided by rate in order to get time

How many seconds to fold $$B$$ napkins?

Rate: $$\frac{H.napkins}{53secs}=\frac{H}{53}$$

Work: $$B$$ napkins

$$r*t=W$$
$$\frac{H}{53}*t=B$$
Time, $$t=\frac{B}{(\frac{H}{53})}=(B*\frac{53}{H})=\frac{53B}{H}$$

Hi Everyone,

I solved the question in a different way. I feel that it is a quicker approach, so thought of sharing the approach.

There are 2 variables (H,B) in the question. Lets assume some values to both H and B , so that we can calculate it more easily.

Let H = 10 and B =20. (We can assume any number , it will lead to the same answer. Here I am taking 10 and 20 for making the calculations easy)

Now we will workout the problem with the information given in the question stem.
The question stem says Karishma takes 53 second to fold H napkins . Substituting H we get :-

10 napkins =53 secs
1 napkin = 53/10
B napkins = (53/10)*B
we have assumed B = 20, substituting the value of B in the above equation, we will get :-
20 napkins = (53/10)*20=106

Now we can substitute the values of B and H in the answer choices and the answer choice which provides the same result(106) as above will be the correct answer.

(A) - > 53B/H= (53*20)/10=106 .

which is same as the answer we got above.
Therefore Option A is correct answer.
