We need to discover whether number of girls is more than 100.
(1) this statement give us % age breakdown, however no info about absolute values. Insufficient.
(2) No information about other age categories. Insufficient.
(1)+(2)
51% of Total number = 51 girls equal or less 15 y.o., hence total number is 100.

(1) 49% of girls are above 15 years of age.
(2) 51 students are equal to or less than 15 years of age.

From the Statement 1 We can deduce that % of girls having age less than or equal to 15 is 51..
And from 2nd statement we can deduce that number of girls having age less than and equal to 15 is 51.

Let the total number of Girls be G

51/100 * G = 51

Therefor G=100

A

S1 says (49/100)x(total) are above age 15 and it will be integer value

(49/100)x(total) will be integer for no value below 100

Hi..

Remember we are dealing with INTEGERS only as students, girl, boy etc have to be complete integer

let's see the choices:-

(1) 49% of girls are above 15 years of age.
this means that the number of girls above > 15 years has to be 49 or a multiple of 49..
also $$\frac{49}{100}*g$$ will be an integer..
so g has to be min 100 or a multiple of 100
answer for " is the number of students in the class less than 100" is NO
sufficient

(2) 51 students are equal to or less than 15 years of age
from this we cannot say about total..
Insufficient
