First of all, it is clear that each statement alone is insufficient.
But E cannot be correct.

Just look at the answer choices.
(1): Z = W + 1
(2): W = 7

Hence Z = 7 + 1 = 8 so C is clearly correct! The OA should be revised. I won't answer the question before that so I don't destroy the statistics here.

It's definitively C.

If W is divisible by 7, is Z even or odd?

Z = W+1.
W = 7.

can someone help me out with this ?
i found this question in one of the question banks from gmatclub.
I'm facing discrepancy between the answer I've deduced and the one provided.

E is the answer.
Z= W+1, W = 7k ( k is an integer) --> Z = 7k+1 , then Z can be either even or odd ( z= 8 when k = 1, z= 15 when k = 2)-> INSUFFICIENT
W= 7, nothing about z can we can infer
(1) and (2) combine: w = 7. z = 8, z is even--> sufficient

where does K come from though ? the second equation states a single value for W without any variables.

Can any expert comment upon this.
I think the answer should be C, since you can use W = 7 in Z = W + 1 to get Z = 8 which is even. Suff.

Please confirm.
