If w + x + y + z = 100, what is the value of w + y?
(1) The sum of w and y is 200 more than the sum of x and z.
(2) Two times the sum of x and z is -100.
w + x + y + z = 100....w+y=100-(x+z)
So we require to know x+z to find w+y...........x+z=100-(w+y)
The moment you read the statements, you should realize that both statements talks of SUM of x and y, and there is a likelihood that D should be the answer..
(1) The sum of w and y is 200 more than the sum of x and z.
w+y=x+z+200=100-(w+y)+200...........2(w+y)=300.....w+y=150..
(2) Two times the sum of x and z is -100.
2(x+y)=-100....x+y=-50
w+y=100-(-50)=150
