If x > 0 and y < 0, what is the value of x + y?

Stem- Both X and Y are of opposite signs

(1) |x| = |y| this statement tells us that both X and Y are equal in magnitude but according to question stem they are opposite in signs hence X+Y=0

(2) x^2 = y^2 this statements again tells us that both X and Y are equal in magnitude but according to question stem they are opposite in signs hence X+Y=0

Answer is D
