Statement 1: x can be 5, a prime no or x can be -5, a non prime number. Hence Insufficient

Statement 2: x can be any number, both prime and non prime. Hence Insufficient

Combining 1 & 2: Again x can be 5 or -5. Hence Insufficient

If x is odd, is x prime?

(1) The sum of the digits of x is 5

=>odd numbers with sum of its digit 5 can be : 5,23,41,113,131,203,221,311,401...
So x can be prime or not.
Insufficient

(2) x < 300
Clearly not sufficient as only given information is that x is odd number and is less than 300.
Insufficient

(1)+(2)
Sum of digits of x is 5 and x < 300
we have numbers : 5,23,41,113,131 -> prime and 203,221 -> non prime
Insufficient

x = 23 => x is prime.
x = 203 => x is not prime

Insufficient.

Quote:
(2) x < 300

x could be any odd number. Insufficient.

Quote:
combining both statements

x = 23 => x is prime
x = 203 => x is NOT prime.

The answer is E.
