For the IIMs, they are more or less equally regarded. But yes, just from a prestige standpoint, the fact is that the Big 4 are seen as the top-tier firms in areas like management consulting, audit, tax, and advisory services, while Genpact operates in its niche in outsourcing, process optimization, and digital services, etc. although it is totally possible that someone from the Big 4 may get rejected because their goals do not align with their capabilities/skills, while someone from a company like Genpact may get through due to the elevated responsibilities they have taken on and how their skills are highly relevant to post-IIM goals. So, don’t read too much into this as long as both are well-known companies.

Best wishes

Thank you for the response. So in that scenario, PWC being one of the Big 4 would be given a slightly more importance than another firm Genpact. Is that right?

Hi,

What is the importance of brand value of company in the application process of IIMs. Do they prefer brand value or the work done by us in that company?
Both the brand value of a company and the impact of an applicant’s work are considered when evaluating profiles, but the emphasis is on the overall profiles. While experience at renowned firms like MBB, FAANG, or Big 4 can provide an initial advantage due to their rigorous training and structured career progression, it is also the quality of work, leadership, and impact that may hold greater weight. Candidates from lesser-known companies or startups can still stand out if they demonstrate significant contributions, problem-solving abilities, and leadership in driving business outcomes. Factors such as career progression, industry relevance, and initiative in tackling challenges play a crucial role in admissions decisions. While a strong brand name can provide some credibility, IIMs can prioritize applicants who showcase tangible achievements, strategic thinking, and leadership potential, regardless of their employer’s reputation. It's ultimately about how your overall profile reflects your strengths and how well it aligns with the school's fit. Consider reaching out to student ambassadors and alumni for deeper insights, it will be valuable as you work on your application. Best of luck!
