Rahul_N It's not mandatory. I have worked with successful candidates (e.g. navy/ army professionals) who due to the confidentiality of their work can't have a LinkedIn profile or update it with all their work details.

It's just another datapoint, which if and when rightly used, can present a positive image of you.

Regards,
Arvind

Hi Rahul_N,

A LinkedIn profile is not a necessity. However, if there is nothing external that is preventing you from creating/maintaining one, it would be nice to have a profile that presents your entire academic and professional trajectory in brief.

Now, to answer your question, there is no downside as such.

Thanks.

Thank You ExpertsGlobal , admitStreet .

Currently I don't have a LinkedIn profile as in the past I didn't really feel necessary to have one .
But I understand that we can be descriptive in Linked about our professional experience, which isn't always possible in a resume.
I realize that sometime that could be a thing that sets us apart from a competitor. So I'll have the profile ready by the time I'll apply.
Thank you for the advices.

Hi everyone,
I am planning to submit my application in another couple of months and just wanted to know what is the relevance of LinkedIn profile. Are recommendations on LinkedIn important to have?

'Linkedin profile is your face for MBA Applications, because you'll probably do outreach through that.

Recommendations on those not so much

The post about making sure your LinkedIn profile is appropriate and accurate (consistent with your resume/application), is the right one.

All other details about your LinkedIn profile are insignificant. The school allocates a certain amount of limited time to reviewing the materials they require for admission. They are not researching you online in their 'spare time' to make a determination. If it a profile were necessary (and why would it be, it's duplicative), you would be required to submit one as part of your application.

I would very highly recommend that you update your profile and keep it presentable.

Schools that particularly focus on understanding your "fit" with the school can sometimes visit your LinkedIn profile. Additionally, MBA interviewers, especially when alumni are conducting interviews, can also use your LinkedIn profile to form a perception. Humans are social animals, and while the LinkedIn profile may not officially count towards the points you receive for being socially connected, it does influence the cognitive biases of people you will encounter during the admissions process. Most importantly, LinkedIn can be a powerful tool for you to reach out to alumni and industry specialists who can provide valuable insights into your target schools. Therefore, keeping your LinkedIn in good shape increases the odds of receiving positive responses and assistance from individuals you reach out to during the admissions process.

Not every applicants LinkedIn profile will be examined, but as an applicant, you can never know for sure. Therefore applicants should take the opportunity to make their LinkedIn profile stronger.
LinkedIn profiles are increasingly important for MBA applicants. Many applicants to MBA programs “clean up” their LinkedIn profiles (as well as social media profiles, though LinkedIn is assumed to be the most important one to take a look at, due to its professional orientation) and more than a quarter of admissions officers schools say they take social media accounts into consideration when reviewing applications. With the rise of more professional platforms, such as LinkedIn, it’s time to start seeing your profile as an extension of your application.
