GMATNinja, I did not understand the OE here. Please explain the role of such that in choice C.

As per my understanding,
1. In 1900 there were one thousand women working in the profession of dentistry
2. Lucy Hobbs Taylor, the first female dentist, is credited with leading women into the field of dentistry
should be two different clauses.

Please help!..

'Such that' means largely, to the extent; it also implies a causal relationship meaning 'because of which'.
we know well that there were one thousand women employed in dentistry not necessarily because Lucy was the first one, nor because she was the leader of them. Both the phenomena just happened coincidentally. Therefore, C changes the meaning.
B looks much better except for the comma fiasco pointed out by Chetan.
All the same, this is a lousy topic considering choice E, which says that there will be one thousand women in 1900.

A. In 1900 there were one thousand women working in the profession of dentistry and Lucy Hobbs Taylor, the first female dentist, she is credited with leading women into the field of dentistry.

B. In 1900 there were one thousand women working in the profession of dentistry and Lucy Hobbs Taylor, the first female dentist, is credited with leading women into the field of dentistry.
--> two clauses in this sentence are not balanced in conveying meaning, so the use of conjunction and is inappropriate, furthermore, We should use comma and (, and) to join two clauses.

C. Lucy Hobbs Taylor, the first female dentist, is credited with leading women into the field of dentistry, such that in 1900 there were one thousand women working in the profession.
--> correct.

D. The first female dentist, Lucy Hobbs Taylor, in 1900 there were one thousand women working in the profession, is credited with leading women into the field of dentistry.
--> awkward and wordy.

E. Credited with leading women into the field of dentistry, Lucy Hobbs Taylor was the first female dentist, such that in 1900 there will be one thousand women working in the profession.
--> awkward and wordy.
