In a class 40% students complete their homework on time and get points from their teacher. What is the percentage of students in the class who do not complete their homework on time if 50% of the students who complete their homework on time still do not get points from their teacher?

A. 80%
B. 60%
C. 50%
D. 40%
E. 20%

You could set up a table with Completes/Does Not Complete and Points/No Points. To make it easier, assume that there are 100 students total.

Since 40 + 0.5x has to equal x, 40 must be the other 0.5x. Therefore, x = 80.

Going across the bottom row, you get that 80 + Not Complete = 100, so the answer is (E) 20%.
