In a pet store survey about dog and cat owners, it was found that 18% were cat owners, and 42% were male pet owners. What percentage are female dog owners?

Sol: IMO- Option-D
Given : 4 Attributes : Male Pet Owners (M), Female Pet Owners (F) , Cat (C) and Dog (D)
a) Percetage of Cat owners = C = MC + FC = 18 ---(1)
b) Percentage of Male Pet owners = M = MC + MD = 42 ---(2)
C+D = 100 -- (3)
M+F = 100 ==? F = FC + FD = 100 - 42 = 58 -- (4)
Asked : Pecetge of Females having Dogs = FD ?
Sol:
St-1:
34% of the owners are male dog owners ==> MD = 34
From-1 and 2, FC = 10
From - 4, FD = 58 - 10 =48
Sufficient
St-2
The ratio of female cat owners to male cat owners is 5 to 4.
Let x be the common multiple, then FC = 5x, MC = 4x
From -1 , FC + MC = 18 ==> 9x = 18 , x=2 and thus FC = 10
From - 4, FD = 58 - 10 =48
Sufficient

Inititally all we know is
For sake of simplicity we take total numbers as 100.
For statement 1:
We know that male dogs owners are 34, so we can easily find out female dog owners' number which is = (82-34) = 48
Staement 2:
The ratio of female cat owners to male cat owners is 5 to 4
So we have
5x+4x = 18 => x=2
So, 5x = 10, 4x = 8
We can now find out the female dog owners' numbers which is = 58 - 10 = 48
So each of the staements is individually sufficient to get the answer 48.
Hence, correct option is D
