Solution
Given:
- • 400 users were asked about their opinion about visiting a certain website
• Users responded “well-designed” = 225
• Users responded “interesting content” = 186
To find:
- • The number of users who responded with neither of those phrases
Approach and Working:
- • We already know the number of people who responded “Well-designed” and who responded “interesting content.
• Out of those people, there can be some people who responded both.
• Therefore, if we know the number of people who responded both, we can find out exactly how many people responded to one of those categories and exactly how many responded to both – by default the remaining people will respond to neither
Analysing Statement 1
- • As per the information provided in Statement 1, the number of people responded to both was 20% of 225
- o Therefore, we can find out the number of people responded to both
Hence, statement 1 is sufficient to answer
[calculation: 225 + 186 – 20% of 225 + n = 400]
Analysing Statement 2
- • As per the information provided in Statement 2, the number of people responded to only “interesting content” was 141
- o Therefore, we can find out the number of people responded to both
Hence, statement 2 is sufficient to answer
[calculation: 141 + (186 – 141) + [225 – (186 – 141)] + n = 400]
Hence, the correct answer is option D.
