Solution

Given:

• Due to rain, actual scores are increased by 40% and then added by 6.
• Standard deviation according to actual score is 30.

To find:

• Standard deviation according to adjusted score.

Approach and Working:

• Adjusted score= Actual score* (1+$$\frac{40}{100}$$)+6
o As actual score of all the players if getting multiplied by (1+$$\frac{40}{100}$$), hence standard deviation will also get multiplied by (1+40/100).
 New standard deviation= 30*(1+$$\frac{40}{100}$$) = 42
o Now, 6 is further added to adjusted score of all the players.
 However, standard deviation remains the same when same number is added to all the elements.

• Thus, new standard deviation= 42

Hence, the correct answer is option D.
