A. In establishing a shorter route to Virginia from England in 1609 is modifying lasting fame. Lasting fame definitely didn't establish anything. We can eliminate this answer
B. Looks good. Samuel is correctly identified as a maritime pioneer and is also the one who achieved lasting fame by establishing a certain route.
C. Grammatically seems...ok? However, it is definitely wordy. It's a passive sentence and has multiple phrases starting with "who" and "which". "In the establishment of" sounds awkward. It is an inferior sentence to B and I would eliminate after seen B as an answer
D. This sentence says the shorter route achieved lasting fame....which doesn't make sense. Eliminate
E. This sentence says the shorter route achieved lasting fame...which doesn't make sense. Eliminate.
