Explanation please ? Why C is not the answer ?
Hi this is a good concept to test parallelism and ellipses concept.
Here is the original question
In order to improve reliability, Hyundai has used corrosion resistant coating on the inner body on the surface of Sonata; Hyundai's frames
have been built to last and they are.(A) have been built to last and they are
(B) are now built to last and they do
(C) are built to last and they have
(D) had been built to last and they have
(E) are being built to last and they do
Notice that there second sentence starts after a semicolon that means that the second sentence has to be an independent clause.
So per the original sentence the meaning is that coating results in improved reliability. The frames are made to last longer and indeed they do last.
So the sentence and verbs should be in the same tense and they should follow parallelism.
A is incorrect. If you complete the sentence it will read as " have been built to last and they are last". Notice the "last ". It does not make sense rather it should be they do last. So A is incorrect.
B correct.
C Tense changes and still parallelism is not good.
D There is no need to have past perfect tense. Per this choice the cars were made a long time ago and they are not making these cars anymore.
E Being is not good here. We just need a simple present to convey our idea.
