In our day and age the true and tried principles of cavalry warfare are only still valid if the cavalry is equipped with weapons and methods newer than the enemy.

Analysis:
A.still only valid if / still valid only if
Here we are saying that something is valid at this time only when a condition is met. So this still here refers to the time mentioned in "our day and age" and only refers to the condition expected to be met. so only comes after still valid
So correct usage is still valid only if

B.equips itself / equipped
cavalry is an unit or a team, so correct usage is "is equipped with"

C.newer than the enemy/newer than the enemy's/newer than those of the enemy.
Here we are comparing the weapons and methods of the cavalry with the weapons and methods of the enemy's. So the right answer choice should compare weapons and methods and not the enemy itself.
Correct structure - newer than those of the enemy

Lets look at the answer choices

A. only still valid if the cavalry is equipped with weapons and methods newer than the enemy - Incorrect
The conditional 'Only' should be before if and not before still valid. Incorrect comparison of weapons and methods to the enemy.

B. still valid only if the cavalry equips itself with weapons and methods newer than the enemy. - Incorrect
The conditional 'only' is correctly placed before if, but makes comparison error by comparing weapons and methods to enemy.

C. still only valid if the cavalry equips itself with weapons and methods newer than the enemy's. - Incorrect
Still valid is incorrect, the correct structure of conditional statement is 'only if' and again this statement retains the comparison error

D. still valid only if the cavalry is equipped with weapons and methods newer than those of the enemy - Correct
the conditional statement 'only if' is correctly used and also the comparison error is rectified as weapons and methods are compared correctly with those of enemy

E. only still valid if the cavalry is equipped with weapons and methods newer than the enemy has - Incorrect
Incorrect conditional statement structure and illogical comparison
