(a) In the process of developing a successful career, self-motivation's importance is paramount - Incorrect.

(b) When developing a successful career's process, the importance of self-motivation is paramount - Incorrect.

(c) The importance of self-motivation is paramount in the process of developing a career filled with successes - Incorrect. Career filled with success seems to be better. Also E is more concise than C.

(d) Self-motivation's importance is paramount when in the process of developing a successful career - Incorrect. Usage of possessive form is incorrect and the introduction of when makes the sentence incomplete.

(e) The importance of self-motivation is paramount in the process of developing a successful career - Correct

Answer: E

The Economist explanation says: "career is an abstract noun, and using 's to express possession is only allowed with concrete nouns. "

Can someone provide some OG example for this? I didn't find any.

I know of no such rule that an abstract noun does not take possessive. Nonetheless, there are some who claim that an inanimate noun (no matter whether abstract or not) should not be in possessive, instead the inanimate nouns should take the preposition "of":
"top of the table" rather than "table's top".

However the above is NOT an established universally accepted rule. There are too many exceptions to call this a rule at all, and hence I would not expect that you would find an example in GMAT that eliminates a wrong answer because of this reason.
