In the Reagan High School swim club, 120 members swim the backstroke or the crawl or both. If 30 of these members do not swim the backstroke, how many members swim both the crawl and the backstroke?

I will solve this using Venn Diagrams.
RED represents all people who can backstroke
BLACK represents all people who can crawl
Initlally, we have been given all the information as in the first Venn Diagram.
In statement 1, we have been given all the information as in the second Venn Diagram. From the diagram, we clearly know that 18 people don't swim and crawl both. This implies that STATEMENT 1 is enough.
In statement 2, we have been given all information as in the third Venn Diagram. We have been given number of people who crawl. We already know the number of people who only crawl. So, number of people who backstroke and crawl = number of people who crawl - number of people who crawl ONLY.
This implies that Statement 2 is enough.
HENCE, BOTH STATEMENTS 1 AND 2 ARE ALONE ENOUGH TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION.
