Forget conventional ways of solving math questions. In DS, Variable approach is the easiest and quickest way to find the answer without actually solving the problem. Remember equal number of variables and independent equations ensures a solution.
In the x-y plane the y-intercept of line k is less than -2, is x-intercept of line k greater than 3?
1) Line k passes through (2,-3)
2) The slope of line k is -1/2
In the original condition, you need to figure out the slope and the y-intercept of the straight line on the coordinate, which makes 2 variables. Since the y-intercept is smaller than -2, there is 1 equation, which should match with the number of equations. So you need 1 more equation. For 1) 1 equation, for 2) 1 equation, which is likely to make D the answer.
For 1), there are both yes and no, which is not sufficient.
For 2), it is always x-intercept<-4, which is no and sufficient.
Thus, B is the answer.
