In the year 2016, Maricopa county in Arizona, which includes Phoenix and its suburbs, growing by 222 people a day on average overtaking Harris county in Texas as the county with the highest annual population growth.

A. suburbs, growing by 222 people a day on average overtaking Harris county in Texas as ; There is no verb for Maricopa county. growing and overtaking are not verbs

B. suburbs, grew by 222 people a day on average, overtaking in Texas as Harris county; first error is corrected here - Maricopa county..grew. But overtaking in Texas as Harris county phrase is wrong.

C. suburbs growing daily on average by 222 people a day and overtaking in Texas as Harris county; This changes the meaning - its suburbs are growing daily.. and overtaking.. moreover there is still no verb for Maricopa county

D. suburbs, grew by 222 people a day on average, overtaking Harris county in Texas as; Maricopa county..grew, overtaking Harris county..

E. suburbs grew on average by 222 people a day to overtake in Texas as Harris county; similar to option C - suburbs grew to overtake in Texas as Harris county.. and it gets even more awkward

B. suburbs, grew by 222 people a day on average, overtaking in Texas as Harris county - if you go by meaning based approach it looks like maricopa county grew by 222 people by overtaking IN Texas , its changing the intended meaning - Definitely OUT

C. suburbs growing daily on average by 222 people a day and overtaking in Texas as Harris county. same error as B,"overtaking in Texas as Harris county :lol: "

D. suburbs, grew by 222 people a day on average, overtaking Harris county in Texas as - CORRECT main verb is present and intended meaning is correctly conveyed

E. suburbs grew on average by 222 people a day to overtake in Texas as Harris county[/quote] - Weird meaning , looks like sentence is saying "Maricopa county grew only to overtake Harris county"

It's a beautiful question.
We can eliminate option A and C as there's SV error.

Options B and E are incorrect because they indicate that 'Maricopa county......overtaking in Texas'. The original meaning is that 'Maricopa county in Arizona.....overtaking in Harris county in Texas'.

Therefore, the correct answer is option D. :)
