In three numbers, second is twice the first and is also thrice the third. If the average of the three numbers is 44, the largest number is:

(A) 24
(B) 36
(C) 72
(D) 108
(E) 112

The answer is option A
Lets find the three numbers
Let, Ist = x
IInd = 2x
IIIrd= 2/3x

x+2x+2/3x / 3 = 44
x=12
the no.s are 12,24 and 8

x = 12 or 36 ? If its 36, then the answer is 108 (D)

I did not understand ?
