I have a doubt in option C of this question. The world’s largest telescope, VISTA, inaugurated in 2009, five centuries after the world’s first telescope was invented, uses a three-ton camera that contains sixteen special infra-red sensitive detectors. five centuries after the world's first telescope was invented in 2009 should act as an independent clause and should be connected using some clause connector with the other clause. Is my understanding correct , if yes then this should not be the correct answer, if no please tell me what are the gaps in my understanding

I find this question good for understanding the main idea, which always lies in the independent clause. Here, the main focus is on USES rather than on INAUGURATION.
After boil this question down to two choices C& E, you can easily select C.

Intent of the sentence:
Something was inaugurated -> VISTA
after a long time -> five centuries after the world’s first telescope was invented
How is it special -> uses a three-ton camera that contains sixteen special infra-red sensitive detectors.

This intent is only met in C

(A) Inaugurated five centuries after the world’s first telescope was invented in 2009, the world’s largest telescope VISTA uses a three-ton camera containing sixteen special infra-red sensitive detectors.
after ",", it should be VISTA

Remove the modifiers, only C makes sense

5 centuries is not inaugurating something, Out

Not our intent -> Out

"five centuries after the world's first telescope was invented in 2009", this is not independant clause, this is a modifier of 2009. try to remove all modifiers then C makes sense.
