ouch River- hope it heels soon, but then you have only one more set of essays to work on :)

I spent the weekend playing golf, watching baseball (Go Sox!) and generally procrastinating. Need to make sure I dont have Sox references in my essays-might have slipped them in while watching the game :P

hopefully a month off in South America will change that...

You are going on a month long vacation to South America? When? That sounds fantastic! But you can't be going in near future .. cos you may have to deal with some B-school interviews, right?

Well, I will be heading off November 10th to the 28th. I doubt they'll do interviews the week of Thanksgiving, and I don't think they'll be ready to do interviews early November, 3-4 weeks after the submission deadline. I'm guessing most of the interviews will be done late November/early December. I will have email access while I'm gone, so I can still schedule an interview and stuff like that.

At least I hope it'll work out this way. If I do hear from them early enough, I can schedule an interview the week of 11/5. I know Haas won't be ready for interviews until December since the deadline is 11/5.

Does anyone know how fast they get interviews out normally, after submitting the application?

haha, I need the break... then again, we all do. =)

I haven't taken a vacation since last Xmas, and I usually do 2 per year, so I'm long overdue...

River, get well soon. Sad to know you had a lil incident with the blade.

My weekend started from Thursday. Woke up at 8 am, called my manager to let him know I am down with encephylitis (I used that word since I am reading a book on Mad cow Disease and that term was mentioned a lot). Worked on my ucla essays for a while.

Took out my motorcycle, went up on the mountain roads, had a puncture, $ 250 poorer, stirred up some edamame, dumplings and had a sumptous japanese meal, went to a cool club, got some numbers and slept like I have never slept for a week.

And now its a freak show in SoCal with all the fires. One of my colleagues is calling me from NJ asking me to go to his home in Irvine and rescue his car!!!

Guys, have a nice week and all the best with applications.. R1 season is coming to a close

I thought encephalitis only happened in tropical countries?? And you'd be out for a while...

I prefer the "I ate something bad last night" excuse. Nobody ever wants any more details about you and the toilet and you're back the next day.

Take a trip to Titikaka - it's not too far from Lima (as far as I remember). Visit Copacabanna Peninsular (from the side of Bolivia). You will never forget its beauty! :)

My manager would not even care if I had prostate cancer. He knows I am not gonna last much longer so I am taking advantage of this unique opportunity.

BTW - its a semi doomsday scenario here in LA/OC. Power is going out, people are running scared like headless chicken. Fires burning everywhere. Reminds me of the song and a quick Avi poem to celebrate this momentous occassion

The roof the roof, the roof is on fire.
and I got the desire
To do nothing but write my essays
Put some magic in my application
and make the ad-com not suffer from constipation

(couldnt be poetic enough to put in a killer ending)

LOL! I heard about the coca leaves! haha, don't want to fail any drug tests.

I'll definitely hit up Machu Picchu, maybe Titikaka. Considering checking Iguasu Falls if I have time. My roommate is Peruvian, so I'll have a guide there.

Avi, man, you gotta get out of there (your company). As for LA, I used to live there when the San Gabriel Mountains were on fire and the LA Riots with the national guards driving tanks around... those were the good days...

And I just flew into it. Spent today at Berkeley, and this evening I am at the Stanford guest house (nice place btw). I am right next door to the Linear Accelerator, so I have to go through security just to get into the parking lot! Headed to LA tomorrow evening.

As for coca leaves, it's a good means against high altitude headache. I even have got a T-shirt with printing "La Hoja de Coca no es Cocaina" and nice leaves of coca. I know it is not a proof of the lack of this drug in the leaves.... They are there but in very-very small proportions that will not harm you or your blood test. The stuff is like Coca Cola or coffee - not worse :) Actually, they sell the tea entirely consisting of coca leaves in the duty-free shops in the Latin American airports. So it's legal, my man :)

Iguasu. My friend who has been to Argentina said that he had never seen more beautiful waterfalls on the planet than Iguasu :)

Titikaka (Copacabanna peninsular) is a must :)

That's not so. One of the common carriers of the desease is encrphalitic tick, which is widespread throughout most part of Russia. And you would not call Russia a tropical country :)
