ISB admissions generate a lot of excitement, stress…and as a result a lot of queries too among the applicant pool. The big question being – ‘I have made up my mind to apply to ISB this year. But I’m not sure when I should apply. Round 1 or Round 2?’

When the dust settled on the recently concluded ISB admissions season, we did some statistical digging. We wanted to see if we could get any real data to see what’s happening behind the scenes. Is it only a few vocal and visible applicants on the forums who are getting paranoid about ISB admissions as the ISB deadlines get closer or is that also the general trend? How are the rest of the (invisible and silent) ISB applicants actually behaving?

We used the traffic that we get on our website as an indicator of interest. And digging deeper brought up some interesting results (doesn’t it always!).

Check out the chart below:

If that doesn’t appear very intuitive, a deeper analysis of what that means for ISB applicants (along with some application tips from the ISB admissions team) is available here --> ISB Admissions Round 1 vs Round 2 deadlines

Any GMAT Clubbers aware of whether this trend might be seen for other bschools too? I'd be keen to hear your thoughts and experiences.

Thats an interesting observation. But if the intent is to answer "When should I apply. Round 1 or Round 2?" then here is my recommendation

It is always easier to get the admit in Round 1. But that itself is not the only factor that should determine your decision. If ISB is your top choice then you have no excuses... go for Round 1. Get the admission and enjoy life while you wait for your program to start! However, if you are considering other programs ahead of ISB (and are reasonably optimistic of an admit) then you probably want to wait for Round 2. This is because ISB Round 1 results are out by Nov, much ahead of results of most other schools. You have to pay the initial admission fee of Rs. 2L / USD 4K (approx.) within 15 days and that gets forfeited if you don't join. So, if this bothers you, wait till Round 2. But you are making a trade-off here....

My personal experience is that most applicants apply in Rd 2 because they are just too lazy to plan early and miss the Rd 1 deadline!
