BRIEF SUMMARY: Name: Ajay Soni Qualification: B.com and CA. Academics: Decent but by no means great. INDUSTRY- GOVERNMENT/PUBLIC SECTOR HAVING WORKED AS SECTION OFFICER(BASICALLY FINANCE & ACCOUNTS OFFICER) IN INTERNAL AUDIT, PERSONNEL DEPT. , HEALTH DEPT., POLICE VIGILANCE AND DIRECTOR GENERAL POLICE PUNJAB. GMAT SCORE: APPLIED WITH 670. TOTAL WORK EXPERIENCE: 7.5 YEARS IN GOVT. AND AS GUEST FACULTY IN COLLEGE FOR 8 MONTHS.
INTERVIEW DATE:28.11.2020. After waiting for 2 hours in zoom session waiting room , finally one screen popped up and I saw 2 professors sitting in their home and ready to grill me.
P1: Show me your Gmat score sheet Me: Done P1: 670 is your first attempt? Me: No sir it was my second attempt. But will give third attempt also. I think I spoke extra here. But my excitement drove me and I uttered extra. My suggestion: Do not speak extra. P1: Why? Me: I am not satisfied as I always wanted to cross 700 in Gmat. P1: So R u planning another attempt? Me: Yes sir in Dec month. P1: In that case best of luck and do send us scores. Me: Ok sir. P2: So having worked in govt. for 7 years, Why now MBAEX? Me: I was crystal clear here. Thoroughly convinced them. I had learned from mistakes made during IIM A and B interviews. So had prepared myself properly this time. They didn't cross questioned. But I had said that IIM C has been renowned for producing public managers. So next question was based on this. P1: Where have you read this? Me: Wikipedia. P2: So wikipedia is best source of information acc. to you? Me: Gave solid point here how wiki info. should be corroborated by other sources as well...gave 1 example. P1: Ok Ajay how many people are working under you? Me: Answered P1: So you are doing auditing as well as advisory work. Don't you think this is conflict of interest? Me: Answered with full conviction. P1: Do you know such conflict happening in Corporate world. Me: Gave ex of ILFS and PWC. P1: Ok tell me if you are an advisor and want to advice Chief Minister of Punjab about regulating or even eradicating the fake news, How would you do so? Me: Asked them for 15 seconds so that I can recollect and then Answered. Gave them 3 points. No cross questioning. P2: Ok so now how would you advice someone sitting in village and reading some fake news stuff but believing that what he is reading is in fact true. Give me 3 points. Me: Answered with 3 points and even quoted some Supreme court ruling on freedom of expression. (I read lot of news) P2: So Ajay do you know how the course is structured and how many terms are their and what are the subjects covered? Me: Answered. Now this question came because I had written something in SOP. So be thorough of your SOP. They can ask questions. Even IIM B panel asked such stuff to me. P1 and P2 asked each other if they want to ask any other question. P1 and P2 seems quite satisfied at this point of time. I was like just let me go off now. P2: Do you have any question for us? Me: I want to start Martial arts in IIM Calcutta if time permits. So would like to know if any space can be provided there. P2: Answered. Me: Thank you sir.
Interview over.
Result: Selected.
Analysis and my suggestions for readers: I purposely asked them about opening martial arts club and all. Why? I want to highlight my strengths and by asking them this question I did that perfectly. So try to find such openings during interview and highlight yourself. I was very confident during the interview and this quality can't come in one day. So work on your confidence. It will help you during interviews. I Was nearly 100 percent confident that I have cracked this interview. Just stay true to yourself. They ask very general questions. They just want to analyse three points about candidate: 1. Confidence. 2. Preciseness/concreteness in giving answers. 3. Why MBA and clarity. By the way I got 710 in GMAT on 31.12.2020 and sent them the official score as well.
Thank you for sparing your time and reading!

Congrats:)
Thanks for sharing .
Your interview has motivated me:)
Do you mind telling what did you answer for question "Ok so now how would you advice someone sitting in village and reading some fake news stuff but believing that what he is reading is in fact true." My answer would have been: 1. Don't believe the news unless verified. Better verify from other sources: newspapers, friends' circle, other social media channels, national news ( DD news ) etc. 2. Don't get affected by news as what you read is just part of the whole picture. Don't make decisions based on small information 3. Don't forward to others and advise your friends and family the same things
2. You were selected before 31st December ? or after you sent updated score.
3. Do you think if you were from IT with 670, you would have been selected? Your opinion please.

1. Do you mind telling what did you answer for question "Ok so now how would you advice someone sitting in village and reading some fake news stuff but believing that what he is reading is in fact true."
I gave this answer though I dont remember much. 1. Awareness regarding fake news as many rural folks wont even know that such thing exists. 2. Telling/providing him access to credible sources so that he can corroborate what he has read. 3. Compelling/Educating him to form his own opinion about the issue rather than endorsing majority view.
2. You were selected before 31st December ? or after you sent updated score. I was selected for admission on 07.12.2020. I just fulfilled my promise and internal desire by sending scores.
3. Do you think if you were from IT with 670, you would have been selected? Your opinion please.
I think if my IT work would have been exceptional or If I would have been able to articulate even not so great CV with great expression then 670 would have been more than sufficient. Obviously at any day above 700 is a great score to get into top colleges but score is only one criteria. They know you are cmg after 5-10 years of work ex so they expect your articulation to be better than a fresher. So dont just conc on score. My exp tells me that post call only interview matters. If you dont make any mistake during interview you will be selected bcz if they are calling you at 670, it means that they have seen some spark in your profile. So now the ball is in your court. I think I answered your question. Further doubts/queries welcomed.
