OK, so when I see this prompt:
"For each of the following statements, all of which refer to the 9 teams discussed in the prompt, select Yes if the statement can be shown to be true using the information provided. Otherwise, select No."
Does that mean I select "yes" if the statement is true, or select "yes" only if I can tell if it is true or false? In other words, is it asking me "is thing x true" or is it asking me "can you tell if thing x is true, based on this data"

That's an excellent question, and I am happy to help.
For a given statement, consider the following possibilities
(1) Based on the information provided, you absolutely know the statement is true.
(2) Based on the information provided and your life experience, you good reason to think the statement is true.
(3) You have absolutely no way to determine whether the statement is true or false.
(4) Based on the information provided and your life experience, you good reason to think the statement is false
(5) Based on the information provided, you absolutely know the statement is false.
For the question "For each of the following statements, select Yes if the statement can be shown to be true using the information provided. Otherwise, select No", Case (1) would produce a "yes" answer to the question, and Cases (2)-(5) would produce "no" answers.
Don't confuse this question with the "sufficiency question" in Data Sufficiency. GMAT DS is a very different beast, and the logic unique to DS is completely irrelevant to this kind of IR question.
Does all this make sense?
