a 48 in Quant is 83rd percentile, so i'd say anything above 47 would be in the range you're talking about.

for verbal, i'm not sure what the appropriate score would be.

Not necessarily.
There is a strong belief that you do need a high Quant score for Finance schools but nothing really for verbal.

I sort of nipped this subject in the bud, but if I want to go for Finance at Stern, will my 44 Quant put me at a strong disadvantage? I mean, it's not a terrible quant score, but it's not exactly great either.
