Is a^8 < 25?
Take the square root: is a^4 < 5?
(1) a^4 < 5. Directly answers the question. Sufficient.
(2) a is closer to 1 than it is to 2. This implies that a < 1.5. Now, if a=0, then the answer is YES but if a=-100, then the answer is NO. Not sufficient,
Answer: A.

Option A)
Stat A) Sufficient => Squaring on both sides. gives the same statement.
Stat B) Not sufficient => Taking square root on both sides = a^4 < 5
try with a = 0 => yes
with a = -2 => No
Therefore option A is suff.
