(1) It is clear that x is even. Sufficient. (2) We can't know whether x is divisible by 2 or not. Insufficient. The answer is A. _________________ Director Joined: 04 Dec 2015 Posts: 750 Location: India Concentration: Technology, Strategy WE: Information Technology (Consulting) Re: Is a positive integer x an even number? 1) The smallest prime factor o [#permalink] Show Tags 11 Jul 2017, 01:54 MathRevolution wrote: Is a positive integer x an even number? 1) The smallest prime factor of x is 2. 2) The greatest prime factor of x is 13. 1) The smallest prime factor of $$x$$ is $$2$$. Any number which is multiple of $$2$$ is an even number. Since $$x$$ has $$2$$ as its factor, $$x$$ is multiple of $$2$$ and hence $$x$$ is an even number. I is Sufficient. 2) The greatest prime factor of $$x$$ is $$13$$. $$x$$ has $$13$$ as its factor. We cannot determine if $$x$$ has any even factors. Hence II is Not Sufficient. Since there is 1 for con 1) and 1 for con 2), D is most likely to be the answer. For con 1), since x always has 2 as the factor, you get x=even, hence yes, it is sufficient. For con 2), you get x=2*13 yes but x=13 no, hence it is not sufficient. The answer is A.
