Is GMAT OG 2020 too easy?

Question

Hi. I've recently purchased the GMAT OG for 2020, and in the QR section, I find the level of questions to be very very easy, so much so that I have solved about 40 questions in about 20 minutes without once using a pen and a paper.

Is this the level of GMAT? If not, what are some excellent QR question banks which are 700+ level and can help me score about 740?

OG questions are for a rough idea about GMAT. However, most of the questions have appeared in previous GMAT real exams. do the practice in GMATClub.

Questions in OG are usually in ascending order of difficulty level, last 10-15 questions are the ones at 700 level, first 30 to 35 questions are at 600 levels and the middle ones between 600-700 level

Hi verydisco,

OG questions are nothing but retired GMAT questions. So they are definitely quite close to the questions you are likely to encounter on your real GMAT. Also generally last 15-20 questions in each section are 700+ questions.

I would also encourage you to purchase the GMATPREP QP 1 for some great additional practice.

Since it sounds like you're relatively early-on in your studies, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can take 2 for free at www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a little studying first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the basic content and question types, then that's okay - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have those scores, you should report back here and we can come up with a study plan.

I'd like to know a bit more about your timeline and goals:

1) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
2) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
3) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

The OG covers the full spectrum from very easy to very hard, so you might reserve judgment about its overall difficulty level until you've seen the questions at the end. It's certainly worthwhile though working through easy questions (especially considering it's not taking you much time) just to confirm you don't have any gaps in your foundation - getting easy questions wrong is, from a scoring perspective, the absolute worst thing you can do on an adaptive test, and you'll want to be sure you're not at any risk of doing that.

No matter what your level, working through official questions is the best practice, since those are the questions most likely to resemble what you see on test day. So no matter how easy you find it, I'd suggest working through the official books thoroughly, and you should also take advantage of the official question pack. It is, however, hard to find a good supply of realistic high-level questions; a lot of 'challenge' questions from prep companies are hard only because they are long and complicated, or because they test things out of the scope of the GMAT. High-level questions on the real GMAT aren't like that. I like a lot of the hard questions Bunuel here at gmatclub has designed, so that's one good source of difficult problems. I've also prepared several long problem sets specifically for test takers near the top of the scoring scale who are looking for additional realistic high-level practice, and if you might be interested in those, feel free to send me an email.
