I have a question for anyone who has already taken the GMAT. Did you find the actual test to be similar to the GMAT prep practice exams.
I just sat for a full GMAT prep CAT (including writing 2 full AWAs). I scored a 720 (Q47,V42) and was shocked. I had previously taken 2 Kaplan CAT tests and scored 590 (Q36,V34) and 600 (Q37,V34). I have read here that the scoring algorithm on Kaplan is more rigorous, but a 120-130 point difference in the course of a week is quite significant. I did notice that the Verbal on Kaplan's CAT was a lot more difficult and I never saw a boldface question, whereas I saw one on the GMAT prep exam. Are Kaplan's CATs not indicative of the actual test? Or is the GMAT prep exam a watered down version of the GMAT?
I ask these questions because I have not yet signed up for my exam. I would like to take it at the end of this month or early next month. However, I will only take it if I feel as though I have a legitimate chance of scoring above 700 and possibly 750+. I would like to be within 40 points of my goal 4 weeks before the test so I have a reasonable amount of time to get myself to that level. If I'm closer to the score Kaplan indicates then I will put off taking the exam for a while. However, if the GMAT Prep score is a good benchmark then I will sign up for a November 6 GMAT.

GMATPrep is pretty good indicator of the real one. Review the errors and see whether the error percentages are same as Kaplan CATs.
Were you familiar with any of these questions? Just take Manhattan CAT and see where you stand now. if you score above 700 in MGMAT CAT as well, then you are on track.
