Hi Experts,

I am an Indian Female, age 24. I am matriculating in an MS program this fall. It is at Duke University. I have work experience just shy of 3 years as an environmental engineer at an Oil and Gas company (1 promotion, managed an entire oil field's Environmental compliance for almost 2 years). My UG is from an IIT with gpa of 8.74 and GRE score of 333 (163 V 170 Q). I have some volunteer experience.
I am now also considering to apply for MBA upon graduating from this program. This should add one more year of work experience. I would like to target top 10 mba programs in USA ( preferably HSW) so I am not confident about my profile right now. I am looking forward to strengthening my profile through my MS (since it is professionally oriented) by graduate consultant jobs, internships, research work at the Fuqua's EDGE centre and gaining some more volunteering experience. Am I being impractical and should I consider applying for MBA only after gaining a significant work experience after MS?

You have great profile. You can easily get any college including HSW.. You are not being unrealistic.

Hey Shreya!! Hope you are doing good at Duke. We are proud that you left to Duke inspite of getting better options. Now, coming to your question, I always wondered why you wanted to pursue an MS when an MBA was more suitable option. Now, that you are into it, I really believe you have a very good profile. Consider getting workex through your MS program, even a internship will do, but show them that you were employable with your degree and you are not opting for MBA just to become employable. Also, I beieve you have a good GRE so you need not worry for 3 years atleast. Meanwhile, get yourself involved in other activities. I know you are good with a musical instrument. See if you can do something with it. The ultimate objective for any B school is to show your complete self, and these extra circulars will fetch you some brownie points.
