Hi bb,

I plan to take the GMAT test in the old version as I have started preparing before the announcements of the GMAT focus edition. I am worried that I will have any disadvantage in my admissions with the GMAT old version score.

Please share your thoughts on this.

Many thanks.
Hi aspiregmat23,

As GmatTutorKnight and bb have both pointed out, taking the current GMAT won't be a problem, but you shouldn't decide on the basis of your current prep. The Focus Edition is mostly a subset of the current GMAT, with more emphasis on data. People who are good at IR, but not so good at SC may actually like the Focus Edition.

Hi aspiregmat23,

With each change to the GMAT (for example, when the At-home version of the Exam was created, when the Exam was shortened back in 2018, when IR was first added in 2012, etc.), Business Schools have been able to adjust their respective admissions processes to accomodate the fact that a certain number of Applicants would be applying with Scores from different versions of the Exam. Considering that there are so many different 'pieces' to the overall application, it is highly unlikely that you would ever be at a serious disadvantage for submitting a Score in the current format of the GMAT. If you'd like to know how an individual School/Program is planning to account for this issue, then you can contact the School and ask.

Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

As long as you have a GMAT score that indicates that you are ready to handle the schools' curricula and that is high enough to keep the schools' averages high, schools will be happy to accept it regardless of which GMAT it's from, and if you plan to apply in the current application cycle, schools will likely prefer scores on the current GMAT since they may not be sure what scores on the GMAT Focus Edition mean.

Hi aspiregmat23,

As many have said, you won't be disadvantaged by submitting a GMAT score for the "current" version of the GMAT.

Hi. I don’t think you will be. You can take the old test. Anyone who tells you otherwise is not well informed.

Why? First, We don’t even know when the new test is launching and nobody in Round 1 in September and October will be able to apply with the new GMAT. How do they think you will be disadvantaged in the first round when you can’t even take the test before the deadline? 😂

If you are applying in round two, do they think everyone who applied in the first round in September and got 760 is going to now drop everything and go and retake GMAT focus for round two applications in January?

I don’t think so.

Not convinced? Well, Harvard and Wharton full-time MBA programs will not accept GMAT focus during the next 12 months. So in that case, you could not submit or use GMAT focus score for Harvard or Wharton. It’s impossible to be disadvantaged with the old score because that is the only score they will be accepting for 12 months.

Has this changed your mind? 😂

And yes, this link talks about the same exact question. https://gmatclub.com/forum/gmat-classic ... 14128.html

Yes. They are.

For R1 2024, both GMAT classic and GMAT Focus will be accepted at Harvard and Wharton.
