I choose C .
The question asks whether the product is greater than 20 or not and by combining both the options it can be said for sure whether it is lesser or greater than 20.

I agree with gmat krishna. This has to be E since y being greater than 2.66666 could also be 2.67 which till gives a value 18.69 (7*2.67) which is less than 20.

so
7*2.67 = 18.69
7*3 = 21
We cant be sure.

8*2.67 = 21.36 (will always be greater than 20. (but we dont know whether x is 8 for sure.)

both sattements are together not sufficient.

Consider the lowest value for x and y, then take the product:

From 1, x>6
From 2, 3y> 8 implies y > 8/3

xy > 6 * (8/3) = 48/3 = 16

xy > 16

There's not enough information to go on to tell whether xy is greater to or less than 20

I go with E)

since y is unknown NOT SUFFICIENT
since x is unknown NOT SUFFICIENT

combining

we have 6<x<9 meaning x is between 6.0001 (for example) and 8.9999

and y = 8/3 which is 2.66667

if you take 6.0001 * 2.66667 is 16.0007 something
however 8.999 * 2.66667 is approximately 23.999

NOT SUFFICIENT

So the answer is E

I choose E for the same reason that gmat Krishna has mentioned.

stmt 1 -- insuff dont know anything abt x
stmt 2 -- insuff dont know anything about y

taking to together,

x=7, y = 2.7 xy = 19.9 <20
x=7, y =3 xy =21 > 20

Hence E

I) not enough, X is in the interval (6,9) and Y can be any real number so
no idea if X*Y > 0

II) no information about X, so not enough

both

from II if Y> 8/3 then the lowest bound of the product X*Y is

6*(8/3) = 24

since 24 > 20

I would go with C

The bold part need relook.
E with others.

As some of you have explained.
