1) u = |w|
u is the absolute value of 'w' but 'w' can be either +ve or -ve. Insufficient.
2) w = |u|
w is the absolute value of 'u' but 'u' can be either +ve or -ve. Insufficient.

Combining 1 & 2, we know that both 'u' and 'w' are +ve. Hence, u = w.

Hi arjunnambiartc,

This DS question can be quickly solved by TESTing VALUES.

We're asked if U = W. This is a YES/NO question.

Fact 1: U = |W|

First off, this tell us that U CANNOT be negative....

IF....
W = 1
U = 1
The answer to the question is YES.

W = -1
U = 1
The answer to the question is NO.
Fact 1 is INSUFFICIENT

Fact 2: W = |U|

First off, this tells us that W CANNOT be negative...

IF....
U = 1
W = 1
The answer to the question is YES.

U = -1
W = 1
The answer to the question is NO.
Fact 2 is INSUFFICIENT

Combined, we know...
U = |W|
W = |U|
Neither U nor W can be negative....by extension, they MUST be the same....

IF...
U = 0
W = 0
The answer to the question is YES.

U = 1
W = 1
The answer to the question is YES.
Etc.
Combined, SUFFICIENT

Question: Is u = w ?

St 1: u = |w|

means whatever the value of "w" will be, but "u" will always be >= 0

but we don't know anything about "w". It can be -w or w. So insufficient

St 1: w = |u|

means whatever the value of "u" will be, but "w" will always be >= 0

but we don't know anything about "u". It can be -u or u. So insufficient

Combining both statements we know that "u" & "w" are non-negative.
